How to know if you are an Overprotective Parent
Protecting children from unhappiness, harm, hurt, bad experiences, pain, and rejection is mostly what overprotective parents do. It sounds like it is admirable when a person hears a parent offering an explanation but people need to have a closer look at the experiences that the children have to go through. When it comes to stating what the parents really fear for their children, the parents are in a hard position. The overprotective parents envision fear in most instances and putting the fear on the children leads to a child being anxious and emotional.
The focus of helicopter parenting is on parents and not on the children. The time that we are currently living in is highly informed and comparative. In situations where an individual is susceptible, they may find themselves in parenting on the basis of anxiety. Such people hover on every move that is made by their children. In some cases, what worries the parents are not the kids but ensuring that they are well represented. People need to excel in parenting making them reluctance in seeing the children fail. Parents should question themselves if the protection that they are giving their kids is to avoid failure because they are parents who are good or they want other people to see them as good parents.
Parents who are overprotective make dues to their kids with credit cards while health parenting will let the kids work for it. Healthy parenting includes a process of guiding, supporting, and training the healthy growth of a child and emotional, mental and social development in a way that will make the children independent. Overprotective parents speak for their children by answering questions which are directed to them. Such parents make excuses when their child behaves badly and believe that the children need to be given second chances in mistakes that they make.
The parents feel that they have an obligation of assisting the kids in rising to ranks which are socially accepted. It makes the parents look more of agents instead of parents because of constantly talking about how good the kids are. The parents also visit the school that their children are learning so often to make sure that they have updates on their performances. However, kids should just be allowed to be kids and not create perfectly decorated children.
Overprotective parenting results in the creation of a situation where children are trying to escape. Because of the fear that is already instilled in them which is a part of the way they think, in the end, they realize that they cannot escape. It is a way that is not effective for raising kids because it will not help in instilling virtues and values in a kid.
